Introduction

coolcode is an powerful AI coding agent that runs in your terminal. It pairs a native TUI — built with OpenTUI and React — with a Hono API server backed by Postgres. The model streams tool calls over the wire, and the CLI executes them locally, inside your project.

Key capabilities

Terminal-native interface — a real TUI rendered with @opentui/react, not a web view.
PLAN and BUILD modes — PLAN is read-only, enforced on both the server and the CLI; BUILD can edit files and run commands.
Local tool execution — tool calls run inside your working directory, sandboxed to your project.
Streaming chat — tokens, tool calls, and tool results stream in real time.
Sessions — conversations and history persist in Postgres.
Credits and billing — usage is metered per message through Polar.
